Exploring legacy, language, and lineage at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall's summer art exhibition

Each summer, Riyadh opens a door to reflection, innovation, and cultural dialogue through the seasonal exhibition at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall. Organized by Misk Art Institute, the 2025 edition runs from July 27 to September 25 and offers visitors a rich encounter with Saudi artistry under the theme “The Intergenerational Lens of Social Change.”
A Platform for Many Voices
Despite operating within the same walls, this year’s exhibition feels larger, more layered. A total of 43 Saudi and Saudi-based artists present works across a wide range of media, painting, photography, multimedia installations, figurative and abstract compositions, all exploring how stories are passed down through time.
Each piece navigates cultural shifts, migration, linguistic nuance, and domestic rituals. Artists probe how inherited values, memories, and wisdom shape who we become, using visual expression to bridge the intimate and the collective.
From Legacy to Dialogue
This exhibition is both a continuation and an evolution. 2024’s iteration, titled Personal Narratives within Saudi Landscapes, spotlighted 28 artists whose work reflected urban motifs and communal memory: everything from historic neighborhoods to rapidly changing metropolises. In contrast, 2025’s edition turns inward, drawing the macro into micro. It is less about place and more about lineage, how language, ritual, and familial structures evolve. The exhibition positions itself as an active dialogue between generations and encourages viewers to consider their own inherited stories.
Why It Matters Now
This is not nostalgia repackaged. It is a living examination of continuity and transformation, intellectual, social, and aesthetic. Through museums, exhibitions, and art-led education, Misk Art Institute continues to nurture platforms that elevate Saudi creative voices.
More than just a gallery, the Arts Hall has become a cultural crossroads, a meeting place between emerging and established voices, between tradition and contemporary practice. More than ever, this exhibition suggests that creative legacy is not static. It evolves.
